When the Abrico Naturista Association (ANAbricó) is on the Abricó beach?
Generally ANAbricó is present on Abricó beach on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays
when weather and ocean conditions are favorable. That means that, PROBABLY,
on rainy or very cold days or when there is less sand because of sea or tide,
the Association would not be present. On the days when we are there, we have
staff organized to control and to watch the naturist behavior of ALL people
present. There are games, folders distributed, and a climate of respect and
harmony.
It's also possible we will be there on special occasions, such as a Friday
after a Thursday holiday, or a Monday before a Tuesday holiday, with the
same rules and organization as on the weekend. Generally, the week of
Carnival, from the Thursday before until the Sunday after, the organization
is there every day. On Christmas, New Years (January 1st) and on the second
Sunday in May (Mothers Day, in Brazil), ANAbricó is not present on the beach.

Is dangerous go to the Abricó beach when the association is not present
on?
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND VISITING ABRICÓ BEACH WHEN THE ASSOCIATION IS NOT
PRESENT. Unfortunately many people do not understand the NATURIST PHILOSOPHY,
and they behave badly on the public beach. That doesn't mean that you will
ALWAYS encounter that kind of problem, but it's very possible.

Is it possible to take public transportation from Copacabana to Abrico
Beach?
By Metro + Bus (BRT): The cheapest and best way to go to Abrico Beach from
Copacabana (or in any location where metro goes) is take metro (subway)
to Jardim Oceânico Station (Barra da Tijuca). There, you transfer to BRT
system and take line to MATO ALTO or RECREIO. On weekdays there
is the expess service, but on Saturdays, Sundays or Holidays not. You
take the PARADOR service. It is slower but it is safe too. Take off on
RECREIO SHOPPING station. From there until to the beach it is about 4,5
km far. You can walk, if you wish. But you may take a táxi or Uber to
the Abricó Beach.
If you wish to on foot from Recreio Shopping station, go in direction to
Macumba Beach, when you arrive near by
Condomínio MARAMAR, on Macumba Beach. From there you have to go three
kilometers (2 miles) on foot, along Avenida Estado de Guanabara, the
road that goes around the hills, at the edge of the sea. Go through
Prainha, stay on the road. It will go up, but when it goes down again to
Grumari beach, as you look seaward, go to your left. Abricó beach is
behind the boulders.
For maps, visit the site of the Rio Tourism Bureau:
www.rio.rj.gov.br/riotur/
Taxi since Recreio Shopping costs approximately 20 reais (Us$ 6,50). Ask to the driver to go to Grumari
beach, and listen to the traffic signs where are written Abricó.
By car: To go to Abrico beach by car, you must go to Barra da
Tijuca, taking Avenue of the Americas (Avenida das Américas). When you
reach the RECREIO SHOPPING mall on your left, don't go up the bridge but
take the smaller road to the right. (The road seems the same Avenue of
the Americas, but it continues over the bridge. The road is called
Vereador Alceu de Carvalho on the map, but no one knows the name.) Take
this road until it reaches the canal. (Follow the traffic signs to
Grumari)Turn left. At the end of the
canal, turn right on the first intersection (Praia da Macumba, next to
the MARAMAR residential condominium on the right), (follow trhe traffica
signs to Abricó) and continue
following the road by the sea, Avenida Estado da Guanabara, which will
climb the mountains. The first beach you will see is PRAINHA, but go on.
After the second mountain, the asphalt becoming cobblestones, you go
down to Grumari. Park the car, look to the sea and go left. Abricó beach
is behind the boulders.
During summer Saturdays and Sunday, access by cars is limited - when the
parking lots are full no more cars are allowed in. See LOCAL

May children come to the beach?
Of course they may! The beach in like any other. But we recommend coming on
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, when the Association is at the beach. On the
other days, except for summer, the beach is very empty.
(BACK)
Are single men welcome at the beach?
Of course they are. There is no distinction between couples and singles.
Everyone is welcome if they follow the code of conduct (read
ETHICS). Behavior is enforced by the association.
(BACK)
What facilities does the beach have?
The beach has foot vendors who sell soft drinks, beer, snacks and "organic"
sandwiches. There are also stands that sell the same. On the beach next door,
Grumari, in front of the entrance to Abricó, there is a restaurant kiosk which
serves several kinds of sandwiches and seafood dishes. Most of the time there
are people with chairs and tents or umbrellas to rent, not always. It's best to
bring your own because shade is scarce.
(BACK)
Are there guards on the beach?
Abricó is patrolled by the state police and the city guards, but they are
unfortunately not there all the time. Two lifeguards watch the sea and provide
safety for swimmers. On busy weekends, the association has volunteers who help
patrol, on days that aren't rainy.
However, there is no problem with violence or robbery. The beach is very
peaceful. Here the biggest problem is violation of the Naturist Code of Conduct
by some visitors. On the road there have been cases of parked car windows being broken
to steal radios. So, don't be careless.
(BACK)
Does it cost anything to go to the beach?
No. Admittance is free of charge. Those who want to join the ANA (Abricó
Naturist Association) pay monthly dues of R$ 40.00 (individual) or R$ 50,00 (couple
) to help cover the beach's maintenance costs (clean-up, secutiry, etc.).
We also "pass the hat" for those who want to contribute spontaneously, and can.
(BACK)
Is being nude required ?
On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays that aren't rainy, nudity is required for
all visitors to provide the expected organization and tranquility. Nudity is
requiring including even for the roaming vendors. On the other days of the week,
clothing is optional.
Although it isn't required every day it's preferred that visitors are nude, even
on weekdays. After all, why go to a nudist beach if not to be nude? A clothed
person winds up making naturists feel uncomfortable, especially beginners.
(BACK)
Does everyone have to follow the Naturist Code of Conduct ?
Yes. Any visitor to Abricó Beach, nude or clothed, member or not, has to
strictly follow the Naturist Code of Conduct, which is posted at the entrance
and distributed to all visitors, under penalty of being warned and removed from
the beach, including with the help of the police. Depending on the infraction
they may have to answer charges of disorderly conduct. This is very clear in the
City Ordinance that established the beach.

Where may I stay around Abricó beach?
Abricó beach is located in the Grumari Environmental
Park, where no buildings of any kind are allowed except for official
ones, and because of that there are no hotels or guesthouses there. The
closest neighborhoods are RECREIO DOS BANDEIRANTES, BARRA DE GUARATIBA
and BARRA DA TIJUCA, where is possible to find places to stay. To reach
the beach, however, a car is needed. The closest place is the Camping
Club do Brasil area on Macumba beach, on the road leading to Abricó
beach.

around Macumba beach and Recreio do Bandeirantes.
